Seabourn Releases Newly Revised, Seven-Day Alaska and BC Itineraries

Ultra-luxury cruise line Seabourn is offering a series of newly revised, seven-day voyages on the 458-passenger Seabourn Odyssey between Juneau, AK, and Vancouver, BC, this summer. The itineraries are unique because they combine calls at marquee ports including Sitka and Ketchikan with such rarely visited spots as the Inian Islands and Alert Bay, a small First Nation village on Cormorant Island in British Columbia’s traditional Kwakwaka’wakw territory

Each of the newly revised voyages also will include glacier experiences at Glacier Bay, the Hubbard Glacier or Tracy/Endicott Arm and will offer the popular Ventures by Seabourn program of expedition-style experiences, including guided Zodiac and kayak excursions launched directly from the ship, as well as hiking and wildlife viewing. The expedition team will include naturalists, scientists, and wildlife and historical experts; they’ll lead adventures ashore, mingle with guests and lecture onboard as part of the Seabourn Conversations program.

Seabourn Odyssey’s guests will have plentiful wildlife spotting opportunities, both from the ship’s decks and onshore. Destinations such as Cross Sound are one of the main gateways for humpback whales to enter the sheltered waters of Alaska. During this voyage, guests also may spot Steller sea lions, sea otters, harbor seals and bald eagles. In addition, the North and South Sawyer Glaciers and Dawes Glacier are all extremely active with frequent “calving” and the surrounding wilderness is home to brown and black bears, wolves, deer, mountain goats, seals and many seabirds.

At Misty Fjords, which early explorer John Muir declared one of the most beautiful places he’d seen, Seabourn guests will head out for kayak and scenic Zodiac excursions to take travelers to an area too narrow for the ship to enter, with vertical granite cliffs rising 3,000-feet above sea level. Beyond that, Glacier Bay, a U.S. National Park and Preserve and UNESCO World Heritage Site, is dotted with waterways, glaciers, temperate rainforests, coastlines, fjords, and snow-capped mountains topped by the 15,300-foot Mount Fairweather.

In addition to Ventures by Seabourn, the line will offer a number of optional shore excursions for guests to explore the destinations, from whale watching outings and nature walks to helicopter and seaplane adventures. One of the offerings is the line’s popular “Enjoy Your Catch” experience, an exclusive culinary excursion available at select ports where guests go fishing and bring their personal catch back to the ship to be prepared by the onboard culinary team.

Guests can extend their time in Alaska and British Columbia with Seabourn Journeys, pre- and/or post-vacation packages. These include a visit to Banff National Park, a designated UNESCO World Heritage site, aboard the Rocky Mountaineer luxury train.
