Farina Opens Second, Larger Location in Albuquerque

Pat and Terry Keene, owners of the already successful and popular Artichoke Cafe in the EDo neighborhood of Albuquerque, decided in 2009 to open a pizzeria just next door and called it Farina. Housed inside an old brick facade, it is an excellent, cozy choice for having what many say is the perfect slice. Based on the popularity of their restaurant, they opened a second location in the Northeast Heights this past May, called Farina Alto.

Gourmet pizzas with intriguing ingredients such as farmhouse goat cheese, leeks and pancetta rest atop a wood-fired crust, baked in ovens so hot it’s charred, in a good way. Roasted New Mexico green chiles are one addition offered on the pizza, as is gorgonzola creme fraiche dipping sauce. But pizza is not the only fare on the menu.

Antipasti such as the tasty meatballs are quite popular, as are the salads like the hearty chopped antipasto salad, full of frisee, white beans, salami and oven-roasted cherry tomatoes, among other flavorful ingredients.

Also on the menu are other Italian staples such as meatball calzones, eggplant parmesan napoleon, ravioli and chicken piccata, to name a few. Gluten-free pizzas and pasta can also be made upon request.

Farina Alto, the new location, offers the same great food as the EDo location, but in a more spacious 6,500-square-foot space – triple the size of the original – along with an outdoor patio.

Both locations offer beer, wine and desserts. The owners decided to add Alto to the name (Italian for “up”) to this location, as it is in the city’s more elevated foothills, close to the mountains.

With a large, elegant bar and a few more menu items and specials offered, Farina Alto gives customers the chance to enjoy Farina in an even bigger way.
